Most Memorable Road Trip
A tribute to a fallen hero….
Ten years ago, we embarked on a delightful journey to the beautiful city of Calabar, accompanied by friends and family. Our convoy of three cars navigated through numerous checkpoints set up by the local police, braving the challenges of bad roads. Despite the obstacles, we reveled in the experience, with music blaring at the last acceptable volume.
Ah, to be young, energetic, and foolish! It is a phase of life that holds its own charm. I strongly urge young people to embrace happiness and honesty, to the best of their abilities. Our weekend was spent at a luxurious Starwood Preferred Guest hotel, where we indulged in the buffet parties, enjoyed swimming and daring water stunts. The nights were filled with lively parties, followed by lazy mornings spent sleeping in, only to repeat the routine the next day.
However, it was not the food or the activities that made this trip truly unforgettable; it was the company we kept. Surrounded by people who genuinely cared, who would stand up for each other in any situation, and who were committed to ensuring everyone had a fantastic time. As I reflect on that trip now, my heart aches for the dear friend we lost along the way as we graduated from college and went in different directions in search of success.
He was the one voted most likely to succeed within our group, and indeed, he was the life of every party. With his quick wit, irresistible charisma, and a personality that could convince anyone of anything, he effortlessly brought forth boisterous laughter. And then, unexpectedly, he left us, while we were still laughing.
But the dreams we shared as a group of friends continue to live on.
