Let It Break!
A few days ago, my favorite coffee cup tumbled off my desk, resulting in more spillage than I had anticipated due to its compact and complex cover. When I retrieved the cup, I noticed that the cover had come loose. Initially, I assumed this signaled the end for the cup, but instead, it revealed the solution to the problem I had been trying to solve regarding the cover.
You see, what seems like a breaking when we fall might very well be the breaking that we need to dismantle our needless complexities and get out of our own way.
Sometimes, it takes a little chaos to reveal the underlying simplicity that we often overlook. In this case, the cover had a very complex design that necessitated soaking it overnight to ensure that all the crevices were cleaned before next. It was only when the cup hit the floor that the cover loosened, allowing for me to discover the maneuver that would make it easier to wash the cover in real time and not have to soak it up or waste some minutes of my morning on a task that should be slated for the evening.
This incident got me thinking about the parallels in our lives. How often do we cling to our own tightly sealed covers, believing that they protect us, when in reality, they may be stifling our growth? We build up walls—of expectations, routines, and self-imposed limitations—thinking we are safeguarding our comfort zones. Yet, sometimes it takes a fall, a shake-up, or an unexpected event to force us to confront these barriers.
As I cleaned up the spilled drink, I reflected on the moments in my life where I had experienced similar “falls.” Times when what felt like a failure or an unfortunate event turned out to be a pivotal moment for change. Maybe it was losing a job that led to discovering a passion for something completely different, or a relationship ending that opened the door to self-discovery and inner strength. Each experience, much like my falling coffee cup, revealed hidden complexities that needed to be unraveled.
In the end, I decided to embrace the lesson from my spilled drink mishap. I carefully reattached the cover, ensuring it was secure but not overly tight. I realized that it’s important to maintain a balance—protecting ourselves while allowing for growth and exploration. Life is a series of spills and repairs, and each time we manage to pick up the pieces, we learn a little more about ourselves and how to navigate the complexities around us.
So, the next time you find yourself in a situation where everything seems to be falling apart, remember that sometimes, falling is just a way to rise anew. See the chaos for what it is, allow yourself to be vulnerable, and trust that what feels like a break might just be the breakthrough you need. After all, in the grand scheme of life, it’s the moments of disruption that often lead us to the most profound insights and transformations.

“How often do we cling to our own tightly sealed covers, believing that they protect us, when in reality, they may be stifling our growth.”
True!!!
All the walls we have been raising so far are walls of securities-as insecurity strangles its hold over us.But life being what it is, it always find some crack in our walls, enough to creep itself in and again the same story is repeated.
We have raised our fortresses against the bombshells of life and sometimes it is necessary such as having an insurance cover but when it becomes exceedignly tormenting to us all the time we should know that something is wring somewhere.
You are right in pointing out that we do not want to be vulnerable, not realising that vulnerability is the real strength, raising walls of security is rooted in fear.
Vulnerability flowers from fearlessness. A rose is beautiful but vulnerable. A human will be human if he/she allows himself to be vulnerable and it is in those moments of vulnerability, when you are watching yourself lies the discoveries of the self.
True! I once heard that once we embrace fear of any kind, we have mastered life!
