The Love/Hate Question
What is one question you hate to be asked? Explain.
“Have you eaten?”
That question means something in my home country, and it means something positive. When someone asks if you’ve eaten in my home country, it means that they genuinely care about you.
But then, I figured that food is one thing that people try to use to control other people out here, and it starts with, “have you eaten?” as well! I also find the question disrespectful out here because under certain circumstances, it is an attempt to undermine one’s adult autonomy.
But when my mother or the people who truly love and care about me ask me that same question? I become a purring cat ready for petting.
Oops, did I let the cat out of the bag literally!
